PBES June newsletter now available; important EOY dates

Dear Families and Friends,

As I welcome you to our final newsletter of the year, I wish to thank you for all the support and encouragement you have provided your children over the course of this school year. I reflect back on many wonderful events and several fond memories we have shared as members of the school community of Pine Bush Elementary this year. Indeed, we will continue to share such moments until the final day of school on Wednesday, June 26. Please know that it continues to be a privilege to work with such outstanding students, staff members and families.

Thank you to the generous members of the Pine Bush PTA including the many officers and committee chairpersons who have offered countless hours to ensure that so many of these wonderful events and experiences for our students were possible. A special thank you to our many parent volunteers who have generously offered countless hours working with students on class projects or helping with school events. Your time and commitment are valued and very much appreciated.

Thank you to all of the members of our staff for ensuring that the daily operations of our school continue unabated. A special thank you to our bus drivers who transport students to and from our school each day, our custodial staff for maintaining building cleanliness and decorum, and our kitchen staff for providing nourishing breakfast and lunch items. A very special thank you to our clerical staff and school nurse who consistently demonstrate the highest degree of dedication, patience and efficiency toward students, staff, families and every individual with whom they have contact through the course of any school day.

Thank you to each of our highly qualified teachers and teaching assistants who work diligently to provide a positive and productive learning environment in our classrooms. You have created a setting which promotes respect and provides opportunities for academic achievement and social-emotional growth and development for our students. You are among the most talented and dedicated educators in our profession.

Finally, congratulations to each of our students who have worked hard, demonstrated a commitment to learning, and have enjoyed personal success in many areas this year. A special congratulations to our fifth grade students who will be moving on to the middle school next year.

May you continue to achieve all you hope to accomplish during your middle school years and beyond. May you always cherish the fond memories and friendships that you have made at Pine Bush.

May each of our students, staff and families find some time to enjoy the warm summer breeze and cool waters of a favorite place to swim. Have a safe, relaxing and rejuvenating summer!

Regards,

Christopher T. Sanita
Principal

To all families that are leaving this summer, farewell and best wishes.  We wish you much happiness and success and hope that you take fond memories of Pine Bush Elementary with you wherever you go.

Pine Bush Elementary will also be receiving new students for the next school year.  If a new family moves into your neighborhood during the summer, please encourage them to contact Zeynep Rice, School Registrar at 456-6200 x3109 as soon as possible to begin the registration process.

Notes from the Nurse

Once again, another school year is coming to a close.  There are several important announcements and reminders that I would like to bring to your attention:

-Please remember to pick up all student medications from the nurse’s office by 11:30am on the last day of school, as they will be discarded after that time.

-If your child needs medication next year, please bring a new set of completed and signed paperwork to school prior to the first day of the new school year.  Any prescription and/or over-the-counter medications that your child may need to take at school must have a written order by your child’s physician and parent permission. A medication permission form can be found on our website.

-All medications must be brought to school in the original container by a parent or guardian on walk-through night or the first day of school.

-If your child is entering school as a new entrant, in Kindergarten, or grades 1,3,5,7,9,11, he/she is required to have a physical exam.  Please make an appointment with your child’s pediatrician to have this done over the summer and drop off/fax/mail/email your child’s physical form to school.

-If your child has any new health concerns please let the health office know.

Have an active, fun, and safe summer – and treat your brain to a really good book!

Riding Bicycles to School

Students who live in the immediate area have ridden their bicycles to school on days when the weather is pleasant. Parents who are considering allowing their child to ride a bicycle to school should be aware that the driveway to the school is an extremely busy place during the morning arrival and afternoon dismissal hours. At these times, a number of vehicles are entering and exiting the driveway and traffic can be quite heavy. For this reason, children should not be riding their bikes at all on the schools driveway/parking lot area.  We have a designated bike route that should be utilized for all students riding bikes to and from school:

Students riding to school should enter the school grounds by taking a right on Coffee Drive (off of Coons Road) and then a left onto the path that leads to the school playground.

Students riding home from school should exit the school the same way.  Take the path behind the playground then a right on Coffee Drive to Coons Road.

No students should be crossing or riding on Carman Road.

Also, if your children will be riding their bike to and from school, please submit a note to their teacher giving your permission to do so.
