Stephen Wolf appointed principal of Altamont Elementary School

Stephen Wolf head shotThe Guilderland Central School District is thrilled to announce Stephen Wolf as principal of Altamont Elementary School. Mr. Wolf, who is currently an assistant principal at Guilderland High School, was appointed by the board of education at the April 16 meeting and will begin his new role on July 1, 2024. He will succeed Peter Brabant, who’s retiring at the end of the 2023-24 school year.

“I’m looking forward to building new relationships with students, staff, and families. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to always have been able to help with many different needs and challenges and I’m looking forward to being able to do that for Altamont Elementary School and the Altamont community,” said Mr. Wolf.

Mr. Wolf’s professional career began at Farnsworth Middle School during the 2008-09 school year as a special education teacher. For 13 years, he taught students of all abilities and provided support as they pursued their goals. Mr. Wolf was also an integral part of the Extended School Year program at Guilderland Elementary School during the summer months; he was a teacher for six years and the principal for three. In 2021, he became assistant principal of GHS, where he was able to impact students on a larger scale as they navigated the challenges of high school.

An involved member of the GCSD community, Mr. Wolf consistently looks for opportunities to help students and staff. He was one of two technology liaisons at FMS for several years, facilitating the incorporation of new software and communicating issues to the district’s technology department. He completed two administrative internships at the school, one at the building level and one at the district level, working alongside FMS Principal Michael Laster and former Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Demian Singleton.

As Mr. Wolf prepares for his new leadership position, he’s looking forward to collaborating with a new group of students and staff and focusing on helping students achieve success.

“My goals as the new building leader of Altamont are to help each and every student set and achieve their own goals and build relationships with all stakeholders in the pursuit of student success,” Mr. Wolf said. “I believe it’s a team effort and I want to do whatever it takes to bring success to all those that I have the privilege of leading.

Mr. Wolf will succeed current AES principal, Peter Brabant and he plans on “picking up” where his predecessor left off by building upon the foundation Mr. Brabant created.

“Mr. Brabant’s compassion and leadership have always served as a model for me and I appreciate how he consistently put students first and met their needs. I want to continue to do that, in addition to carrying forward the great traditions he established,” he said.” “I also want to build new traditions that I can someday pass down to the next leader.”
