A message from Superintendent Dr. Marie Wiles:
Dear GCSD Families,
Thank you for all you’ve done to keep your children engaged in their education during these unprecedented and trying times. The rapid switch to remote learning has been no small feat for students, families, and teachers! We appreciate your partnership in this challenging endeavor.
As we begin to bring the 2019-2020 school year to a close, I want to update you on how we are proceeding with fourth quarter and final grade reporting.
Fourth quarter and final grades will be based on a holistic review of a student’s progress before and after we started remote learning. This might look familiar, as it was used for third quarter grades and progress reports; students received scores of DEL (Demonstrates Evidence of Learning) or NEL (No evidence of Learning). We will continue with this approach through the end of the school year with a few exceptions for eighth grade students taking World Language and Cultures and/or accelerated high school courses and grades 9-12. Please visit the district website for information and FAQs about fourth quarter and final grades.
Please know that these temporary grading policies were developed with careful consideration of the potential challenges faced by students and families during the period of school closure and remote learning. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your principal or school counselor.
Thank you again for all of your efforts as we all work through these uncertain times. Have a wonderful holiday weekend with your family.
Dr. Marie Wiles
