Closing and Delays

Schools will be closed when snow or poor road conditions make travel difficult or impossible. School closings, delayed openings and early dismissals resulting from weather conditions or other situations will be posted on the homepage of the school website and sent out via ParentSquare. In addition to the homepage of the district website, individuals may also access school closing information via the media outlets described below.

If we exceed our planned number of snow days for this school year then we will likely make additional days remote-only instruction days. We will notify you in advance if we have used all of our snow days for this year.

Morning closings may be announced as early as 5:30 a.m., but usually by 6:30 a.m. Whenever schools are closed for emergency reasons, afterschool and evening activities are also canceled. This includes continuing education classes and “PM School” for high school students.

Delayed openings mean all schedules will be delayed either one or two hours. Bus pickups will be approximately one or two hours later than the scheduled time. However, please continue to monitor all opening delays, as they could turn into school closings depending on the weather.

Early dismissals due to inclement weather

When the weather becomes inclement during the day and driving conditions become poor, please stay tuned to news about early dismissals through the methods discussed above. Please arrange for any changes in drop-off locations for students in the event of an emergency school closing in advance, if necessary. If you have not done so already, please contact your child’s individual school for more information on how to make these arrangements.

Early dismissals held due to inclement weather or other emergencies, will be scheduled as follows:

  • Elementary schools—2:05 p.m.
  • Guilderland High School—12 p.m.
  • Farnsworth Middle School—1 p.m.
  • All private and parochial students—12 p.m.

Please note: Y-Time at Guilderland Elementary School, Pine Bush Elementary School, and Westmere Elementary School will only be canceled due to inclement weather conditions if the elementary schools are dismissed before 12 p.m. or if school is cancelled for the entire day. Y-Time will still run if after school and evening activities have been cancelled.
