About Our School

Constructed in 1965 with additions added in 1967, 1990 and 2015,  Lynnwood Elementary School is home to more than 400 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. In addition to the principal, there are approximately 50 classroom and special area teachers, including a shared school social worker and shared school counselor,  English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers, Special Education teachers, a full time school psychologist and a school nurse. There is also numerous support staff, including teaching assistants, aides and monitors, cafeteria workers, custodians and office staff.
 
Other features of the Lynnwood Elementary School program include:
  • A learning community which supports the growth of the whole child—social, academic and physical.
  • Rigorous academic programs that are aligned with New York State Next Gen Learning Standards.
  • A child-centered, developmentally appropriate approach to instruction in all curriculum areas.
  • An active building cabinet exemplifying the shared decision making process.
  • Teacher leaders in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and instructional technology who work closely with the staff and administration.
  • An emphasis on professional development as a vital component of our educational program.
  • An active and supportive PTA and community.
  • Students have access to a school social worker and school counselor who provide support and instruction in self-regulation, facilitate friendship groups and offer push-in services and community-building opportunities to strengthen students’ social-emotional well-being and school connection.  
  • A strong commitment to providing students with innovative, research-based practices and experiences, while also honoring the traditions and culture that are important and unique to the Lynnwood community.
  • A strong commitment to art, physical education, music and other enrichment activities.
