Following a comprehensive search and interview process, Superintendent Mayberry will recommend the appointment of Michael Burns as principal of Lynnwood Elementary School at the Oct. 20 Board of Education meeting.
“I am excited to join the Lynnwood community and become part of the Guilderland Central School District,” Burns said. “Throughout my career, I have seen how strong relationships among students, staff and families create a positive elementary experience. I look forward to building those relationships and contributing to the great work already happening at Lynnwood.”
Burns joins Guilderland from Questar III BOCES, where he has served as early learning principal for the past five years. Previously, he served as both principal and assistant principal at Chatham Middle School. He brings extensive school leadership experience and a strong commitment to early learning and elementary education. Burns is also the author of the children’s book “Nervous Rex!”
“Michael’s enthusiasm for elementary education and focus on creating meaningful experiences for students stood out throughout the interview process,” Dignum said. “His leadership experience and student-centered approach make him a strong fit for Lynnwood. I am confident he will build on the school’s many strengths as he steps into this role.”
Burns said he hopes to build on those strengths by creating an environment where students feel connected, supported and excited to learn.
“Elementary school is such an important time in a child’s educational journey, and I am excited to help create experiences that make students want to come to school each day, take on new challenges and discover what they are capable of,” Burns said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to lead Lynnwood and look forward to what we can accomplish together.”
Burns would succeed Jacqulyn Dignum, who was appointed assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in August. His anticipated start date is Nov. 23.
Former Pine Bush Elementary School Principal Chris Sanita has served as interim principal of Lynnwood since Sept. 1. The district thanks Principal Sanita for his dedication and leadership in supporting the school community and ensuring a smooth start to the school year.
