New COVID Cases; BOE Meeting and Virtual Panel Discussion

Please see an update from Superintendent, Dr. Marie Wiles:

Dear GCSD Families,

I’m writing to provide you the following updates and reminders:

New COVID-19 Case at GHS; Grades 8-12 Remote-Only

Today the district learned of one new individual from the Guilderland High School who tested positive for COVID-19. In combination with other absences, this new case has created a staffing shortage for grades 8-12. Because of this staffing shortage, students in grades 8-12 will transition to remote-only learning starting tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 13, through Friday, Jan. 15. Students will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Board of Education Meeting, January 12

I hope you can watch tonight’s Board of Education meeting at 7:00 p.m. on the GHS Media YouTube page. Information about COVID-19 testing in GCSD schools and 2021-22 budget development are on the agenda. As always, the meeting will be recorded and available on the same GHS Media YouTube page if you can’t make it.

While you are on the GHS Media YouTube page, I invite you to take a look at the recording from our first Diversity and Equity Committee meeting that took place in mid-December. This new standing committee of the Board of Education was formed this year to provide direction, support and oversight for the school district’s ongoing work to become more diverse, equitable, inclusive and anti-racist in its policies, practices and programs.

GCSD Virtual Panel Discussion, January 13

Don’t forget about Wednesday’s virtual panel discussion on the GHS Media YouTube page from 7-8:30 p.m. We received over 100 questions from students, staff and parents and guardians. The discussion is designed around those questions, but we will also try to answer more during the session. If you would like to submit a question, you can email reopening@guilderlandschools.net.

Thank you again for all of your flexibility as we forge through this difficult time together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marie Wiles
Superintendent of Schools
