White and Vellekoop named Dutchmen of the Week for Jan. 19

Each week, we highlight two student-athletes (modified, mod 9, frosh, JV or varsity level) for athletic accomplishments based on the following criteria:

  • The athlete should have made a significant impact on a contest within the nomination time frame, which is the week prior to selection; or
  • The athlete must have shown excellent leadership, sportsmanship, noticeable improvement or effort, community service, and/or other notable traits.

Congratulations to JV wrestler Anthony White and varsity indoor track & field runner Addison Vellekoop for earning DOW (Dutchmen of the Week) honors for the week of January 19

Anthony White (JV Wrestling)

Anthony emerged as the sole champion for his team at the Guilderland JV Wrestling Tournament this past weekend. With over 30 teams and 370 wrestlers competing in this tournament, Anthony showcased his skills by winning the tournament championship in the 150 lbs category. Remarkably, he never needed more than three minutes to claim victory in each of his matches.

Addison Vellekoop (Varsity Indoor Track & Field)

Addison had an outstanding performance at the Jack Reed Invitational, where she set yet another school record by winning the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:33.88. This impressive time ranks as the second best in New York State this winter and the sixth best in the entire country. She followed this achievement by winning the 1000-meter event in 2:54.51, which also set a new meet record.
