At its March 31 budget workshop, the Board of Education continued discussions on closing the district’s budget gap while identifying potential restorations to proposed cuts, using remaining revenue from fund balance and higher-than-anticipated interest earnings.
Board members discussed priorities for potential restorations, with strong emphasis on supporting students with special needs, maintaining teaching assistants and promoting student learning and well-being through a distraction free environment. Topics under consideration included restoring special education teaching assistant positions, instructional supports (such as co-taught classes and academic teaching assistants) and continuing the use of Yondr phone pouches at the high school.
No final decisions were made at the meeting. Board members emphasized the importance of balancing immediate needs with long-term fiscal stability as they continue reviewing options ahead of adopting the budget later this month.
The next Board of Education meeting will be held April 14 at 7 p.m. where the board is scheduled to adopt a budget proposal.
