FMS Butterfly Station Program canceled for 2020

A message from FMS Math, Science and Technology Instructional Administrator, Beverly Bisnett-Jenks

Dear GCSD Community,

We hope you are all doing well and remaining safe and healthy!

While many summer programs are in “pause mode” right now, and we await what COVID-19 regulations will be in place during the summer, we have found it necessary to rethink the FMS Butterfly Station. The Butterfly Station Program has been part of the fabric of our culture and an important element of our summer enrichment offerings for middle school students. Every summer we have welcomed well over 1,000 members of our community and 60 or more student volunteer workers to learn about the Albany Pine Bush Preserve and the importance of butterflies to our local habitat.

We were hoping to be able to proceed as planned this summer, however, when we considered all that would be required to ensure all participants, instructors and members of our community remain safe, we realized that it is impossible to host this summer’s Butterfly Station. So, after careful consideration, we have decided to cancel the Butterfly Station Program this year with the hope we can resume again next summer.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the amazing support we continue to receive from the FMS and Guilderland community.

Warm Regards,

Beverly Bisnett-Jenks, Ed.D
