GCSD Update on COVID-19: 6 p.m., March 13, 2020

Dear GCSD Families:

First of all, thank you for your patience as I can understand that you might have many questions concerning the situation involving the confirmed case of COVID-19 at Farnsworth Middle School.

In consultation with the Albany County Department of Health, the district will follow this schedule for the next two weeks:

  • Farnsworth Middle School will remain closed March 16-27, 2020
  • All elementary schools and the high school will be closed March 16-20, 2020 (unless extended under the guidance of health officials)

All school-related activities and programs are canceled in accordance with this schedule.

Our concern for the health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority. We understand that an extended school closure will be a hardship for our families. Our hope is that this notification gives you some time to make necessary arrangements for childcare, etc.

Breakfast and lunch will be available, free of charge, for students in need each day while school is closed. Starting on Monday, March 16, meals will be available for pick up by families. More information will be forthcoming in a separate communication.

We are making plans to provide families with resources to continue to keep children engaged in learning opportunities while school is closed.

Closing schools for an extended period during the school year has placed us all in unchartered territory.  We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work our way through this unprecedented challenge in our community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marie Wiles
Superintendent
