GCSD Update on COVID-19: March 12, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I wanted to let you know that the Albany County Health Department has notified us that someone in a household connected to the Farnsworth Middle School in the Guilderland Central School District has tested positive for COVID-19. That household is under quarantine.

While school will continue as scheduled, we will be monitoring the situation and working with health officials to determine whether there is a need to close. We will provide updates as necessary and appropriate.

At this time and until further notice, the District will not be holding any large group activities or events. This will include our school musical, Chicago, Celebrate America at Altamont Elementary School as well as dances that were scheduled to take place on Friday, March 13th, at Farnsworth Middle School and Lynnwood Elementary School. This action is necessary in order to reduce the number of instances of community contact within our schools.  We want to do as much as possible to protect our students and staff as we continue to take direction from the Albany County Department of Health.

Please be advised that we have expanded our cleaning and disinfecting protocols in all of our buildings and school buses.

We will continue to update you via the district’s School Messenger notification system, which can send e-mails, text messages and phone calls.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation, as we know this is a serious matter of great concern to many of our families. Please feel free to contact my office if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
Superintendent
