Three new COVID-19 Cases at the District

Please see the message from Superintendent Dr. Marie Wiles:

Dear GCSD Families,

I want to let you know that due to the high number of staff absences, we cannot adequately meet our staffing needs for grades 8-12. Because of this staffing shortage at the high school level, we are transitioning to all-remote learning for grades 8-12 tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 7, and Friday, Jan. 8. We will reassess our staffing capacity for the following week and provide an update as soon as we can.

In addition, the district learned about three new positive cases of school community members. None of the new cases require contract tracing by the school district per the guidance of the Albany County Department of Health.

  • Two cases associated with Guilderland High School
  • One case associated with Lynnwood Elementary School

Finally, I want to invite you to watch a virtual panel discussion on January 13 at 7:00 p.m. on the GHS Media YouTube page. We will be sharing information about COVID-19 testing in GCSD schools, plans for the second semester of the 2020-2021 school year, and preliminary 2021-22 school budget information. More details will be emailed and posted to the district website tomorrow.

Thank you again for your continued support, flexibility and patience. Have a good evening!

Sincerely,

Dr. Marie Wiles
Superintendent of Schools
