Dear GCSD families,
As we settle back into routine after the new year, I’m grateful for the steady partnership that defines our school community.
Looking ahead to the second half of the year, the Board of Education and district leaders are working to develop a 2026-27 budget that reflects stakeholder priorities and enables our students to thrive.
Next week, we will launch a Budget ThoughtExchange survey, creating a space for families, staff, and community members to share their perspectives. We hope you’ll take a few minutes to join the conversation when the link is shared.
Stay informed as the budget takes shape
We encourage community members to follow along as the budget takes shape ahead of the May 19 vote. The next Board of Education meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the GHS LGI and will be live-streamed for those joining online. A full budget timeline and related information is available on our Budget Development page.
Lead testing results
State law requires school districts to test all water outlets currently or potentially used for drinking or cooking purposes for lead. GCSD recently completed testing for the 2023-25 compliance period.
The latest test results indicate that five outlets within the district require additional remediation through a filtration system. These outlets are currently labeled with signs reading “do not drink” until remediation and further testing absolves them. For more information and test results by school, please visit our website.
Help keep our school community healthy
Flu activity remains very high across New York State, and we appreciate your continued support in helping reduce the spread of illness. Please take a moment to review guidance on when to keep your child home, as this shared responsibility helps protect students, staff, and families alike.
Community Announcements
A reminder to check the Community Announcements page, where local organizations share educational and recreational opportunities for GCSD students and families. The page is updated regularly, so be sure to check back often.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and engagement. We wish you a restful weekend.
Sincerely,
Daniel Mayberry
Superintendent of Schools
