Dear GCSD community,
We hope you are having a wonderful summer. As the start of the new school year approaches, please take a moment to review the following health and safety reminders.
New York State physical examination and immunization requirements
New York State requires a current physical examination for students when entering a school district, as well as in specific grades (Pre-K/Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th). It is also required annually for sports participation and to obtain working papers.
The state also requires certain age-appropriate immunizations before attending school. Click here to view the New York State vaccination schedule.
More information on how and where to submit required health records can be found on our website.
Medication orders for the 2026-27 school year
All medications taken at school, including prescription, emergency and over-the-counter medications, require an annual written order from a licensed healthcare provider and a permission form from the parent/guardian. Medications must be in the original labeled container/pharmacy box and delivered to school by an adult.
Click here to view our medication policy.
Water safety information available for families
New York State Education Law requires school districts to provide families with information about drowning prevention, water safety and safe and healthy swimming.
This information is intended to help families understand water-related risks and promote safe practices in, on and around water.
Water safety information is available here.
Parents or guardians may request translated water safety information by contacting Lauren Anderson at the district office.
We encourage families to schedule summer pediatrician appointments early, as healthcare offices often become very busy in August.
We hope you and your family have a safe, healthy and relaxing rest of your summer.
Sincerely,
Daniel Mayberry
