April 30: Updates to COVID reporting; cyber attack investigation

Weekly digest for confirmed cases of COVID-19

Since last Tuesday, there have been six confirmed COVID-19 cases, four at Guilderland High School and one each at Guilderland and Westmere Elementary Schools. None of the cases required contact tracing by the district. We apologize for the delay in sharing these confirmed cases with the community, as we’ve typically done in the past. We’ve seen a decline in confirmed cases and the need for contact tracing over the last few weeks. Thank you to everyone for their continued diligence in stopping the spread by wearing masks and abiding by social distancing protocols. Although we are definitely moving in the right direction, we cannot let our guard down yet.

In light of the declining number of confirmed cases, we will be moving to a weekly report of all confirmed cases, to be shared on Fridays, so you can expect the next update on May 7. The exception to our weekly email will be when the confirmed case requires us to take action such as moving a grade or school to remote learning. You may still be contacted by DOH if there is a confirmed case that requires contact tracing.

Update on investigation into the cyber attack

As you know on Thursday of this week, we were able to safely and reliably restore our Internet service and most of our systems so that our faculty and hybrid learners could return to their respective buildings. There is a plan to resolve any remaining issues so that everything is fully functional soon. I want to take this opportunity to once again thank the members of our technology department who went far, far above and beyond to rebuild and restore our operations, so we could all get back online safely and securely.  I know that your gestures of appreciation and kindness to that team have been tremendously appreciated.

We continue to work closely with a team of subject area specialists and the FBI on this ongoing investigation and will share additional information as appropriate when it is available.

Go Dutchmen!

The Guilderland Dutchmen travel to Shaker High School this evening to play for the AA Football Championship. We wish them good luck as they go for their first championship title!

Also, congratulations to Ben Palleschi and Quinn Tynan from our unified bowling team for earning Dutchmen of the Week honors for the week of April 19!
