August 15 Update: Welcome Back & Important Back-to-School Information
A message from Superintendent Mayberry
Dear GCSD Families,
Just over two weeks into my transition to the Guilderland Central School District, I’ve already felt the strong sense of community and shared purpose that defines Guilderland and its schools. As we prepare to begin the 2025–26 school year, I’m truly excited for what’s ahead.
I can’t wait to meet and get to know the members of our school community. I’m working on a schedule to attend different school meetings and events in September and early October, with more information to follow.
It’s an honor to step into this role and continue the strong leadership that has helped shape this district. I’m ready to support our students, staff, and families–and I’m looking forward to a productive, meaningful, and collaborative year ahead!
Back-to-School Updates
Distraction-free learning begins in 2025–26
In the 2025-26 school year, GCSD will join every NYS school district in creating distraction-free learning environments by requiring that personal electronic devices, such as cellphones, smart watches, Bluetooth/wireless headphones or other mobile communication devices be put away, from the start of the school day until the end of the regular school day.
Students at the elementary and middle school levels must have devices turned off and placed in a locker or cubby. Students attending Guilderland High School must have devices turned off and stored in a Yondr pouch, provided by the district, during the regular school day. Please visit the district website for more information about distraction-free learning and the Yondr pouch program at GHS.
School bus route information
Guilderland CSD Transportation is ready for fall and excited to welcome students back on our yellow school buses! Visit the Transportation Department webpage for details about your student’s bus ride.
Transportation information will be available by Aug. 30 in the Stopfinder app and via the eSchoolData Parent Portal. Because route changes happen frequently, we recommend using Stopfinder for the most up-to-date information. The app also provides notifications about emergency closings, delays, transportation changes, and reminders, and allows direct communication with the department. Parents/guardians who haven’t registered will receive an email invitation. Learn more about the Stopfinder app.
Free school meals for all students beginning this fall
Starting this September, all GCSD students will be eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch every school day, thanks to a new state law that expands access to school meals.
Although no application is required to receive free meals, we ask families to complete the 2025-26 Free and Reduced Price Meal Application. The information collected helps determine the amount of state and federal funding the district receives to support essential student programs.
Required health documentation for students
As you prepare for the upcoming school year, please review New York State’s health requirements for students in grades K–12, including physical exams and immunizations. These requirements help ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.
School supply lists now available
Supply lists for each GCSD school are posted on the district website and individual school pages.
Photo opt-out forms due Sept. 15
Throughout the year, GCSD staff may photograph or film students for use on the district website and social media channels. Families who do not wish for their child to be photographed or featured should notify both their building principal and the GCSD Communications Office by Sept. 15. Download the opt-out form here.
Wishing you all a wonderful end to summer.
Sincerely,
Daniel J. Mayberry
Superintendent of Schools
