A message from Superintendent Mayberry
Dear GCSD Families,
The start of a new school year is almost here, and excitement is building across the district. Throughout the summer, our faculty and staff have been preparing our schools, classrooms and programs to ensure a successful year for each and every student. We have also completed a number of facility improvements and welcomed new team members who will help support our students and families.
As we count down to the first day of school, I’d like to share some important reminders and information to help your family get ready for the year ahead.
Updated health services information
Please note that we recently updated the Health Services page on our website. There, you will find the latest information on reporting absences, when to keep your child home, school-administered medications, health screenings, immunization requirements and more.
School bus route information
Transportation information is now available in the Stopfinder app and via the eSchoolData Parent Portal. Because route changes occur frequently, we recommend using Stopfinder for the most up-to-date scheduling information.
The app allows parents and guardians to:
- View transportation schedules
- Share schedules with caregivers
- Receive transportation notifications and updates
- Send private messages to the GCSD Transportation Department
Parents and guardians who have not yet registered can expect an email invitation.
Free school meals for all students
Once again, all GCSD students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2026-27 school year.
Students may participate in these meal programs at no cost, and families do not need to submit an application. No further action is required. However, if you have questions, please contact Director of Food Services Renee Heller at 518-456-6200, ext. 0110, or via email at hellerr@guilderlandschools.net.
School supply lists now available
Supply lists for each GCSD school are available on the district website and individual school pages.
Start the year strong and build the habit of good attendance
Regular attendance plays an important role in student success. As we prepare for the new school year, now is a great time to establish routines that support strong attendance:
- Set consistent bedtimes and morning routines.
- Pack backpacks and lay out clothes the night before.
- Have a backup plan for transportation or child care emergencies.
- Schedule nonurgent appointments and family trips outside school days whenever possible.
The habits students build in the first few weeks of school often carry throughout the year. By establishing strong routines and making attendance a priority from day one, families can help set students up for success. Click here for more tips on developing a strong routine.
We can’t wait to welcome students back on Sept. 8 and kick off another great school year!
Sincerely,
Daniel Mayberry
Superintendent of Schools
