Dec. 30: weekly update

A message from Superintendent Wiles

Dear Guilderland CSD Families,

I hope all GCSD families are enjoying the holiday recess as safely as possible. I have a few reminders and updates before we return to school on Monday, Jan. 3.

At-home COVID-19 test kits

Yesterday a message was sent to GCSD families regarding Gov. Hochul’s announcement that all school districts will be receiving at-home COVID-19 test kits for distribution to families. GCSD has not received these test kits yet, however we anticipate their arrival early next week. As more detailed information becomes available, we will inform families.

Return to in-person instruction

As previously stated, in-person instruction continues to be a top priority for GCSD, while also maintaining a rigorous commitment to the health and safety of our students and staff. Our intention is to return to in-person instruction on Monday, Jan. 3 in the safest manner possible and we are working diligently to do so. You can do your part as well by keeping symptomatic students home from school.

COVID-19 testing and results reporting

As a reminder, the GCSD diagnostic COVID-19 testing location is closed and will reopen on Monday, Jan. 3. The testing facility is located behind the Guilderland Center Firehouse, on School Road. Appointments are not needed although you must create a profile with Quadrant Biosciences at app.clarify-COVID-19.com prior to testing. Should you need a COVID-19 test when the GCSD testing location is not open, please use this link to find a testing site near you.

Families utilizing at-home COVID-19 test kits should report positive test results to their respective building’s school nurse.

COVID-19 cases for the week of December 27

The information below details the number of new COVID-19 positive cases for the week of December 27. Because of the break it is very difficult to verify the numbers of close contacts. Rather than share information that is not accurate, we are only reporting numbers of cases by building this week.

Altamont Elementary School: 4 new cases

Guilderland Elementary School: 2 new cases

Lynnwood Elementary School: 3 new cases

Pine Bush Elementary School: 5 new cases

Westmere Elementary School: 2 new cases

Farnsworth Middle School: 15 new cases

Guilderland High School: 12 new cases

As the end of 2021 is upon us, I want to thank you for your continued patience and support. I wish every GCSD family a happy and healthy New Year!

Sincerely,

Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
Superintendent
