On Wednesday, June 2, at Guilderland High School, senior Shashank Shamshabad presented a check to fellow schoolmate, Gabe Zullo, for over $1500. Zullo, currently a freshman, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as Ewing sarcoma; the funds are to support his treatment.
To raise the money, Shamshabad and a team of GHS alumni held a two-weekend garage sale, called “The Gabe Garage Sale”. They promoted the sale by placing flyers in more than 500 mailboxes in Guilderland and through social media channels.
In 2020, Shamshabad co-founded a group called the Balance Foundation, to get youth involved in their community. His career goal is to make “a difference for the good”.
