Jane Fanning and Will Smitas named Dutchmen of the Week for the week of September 18

Congratulations to Jane Fanning (Varsity Girls Golf) and Will Smitas (Varsity Cross Country) for earning DOW (Dutchmen of the Week) honors for the week of September 18.

Jane Fanning (Varsity Girls Golf)

This is Jane’s fifth season on the girls varsity golf team, where she began when she was in seventh grade. After playing in her first six matches this season, she has already qualified for sectionals with a lot more golf to play. Her scores have been some of her lowest in her high school career, including breaking 40 for the first time in a match at Normanside CC. Her 39 helped lead the Lady Dutch to victory over an undefeated Bethlehem team. She has been the medalist in three matches this season. Jane is also a co-captain along with Hanna Mitchell. Our team consists of 15 young women, 10 of whom are middle schoolers. Jane is always looking to help her teammates get better at their game, whether it is running a chipping clinic during practice or being an encouraging voice when they are struggling. Keep up the great work, Jane!

Will Smitas (Varsity Cross Country)

Will Smitas came in 1st place at the Queensbury Invitational in a loaded field of 390 runners with a lightning fast time of 15:39.2 (5:03 mile pace for 3.1 miles). Will has had strong performances all season, but this is a breakout performance, placing him in the top tier of runners in New York State. Will is a Captain on the team and his hard work, dedication, and running knowledge is appreciated by his coaches and teammates.
