Guilderland High School senior Angelo Castro won a silver medal in the New York State SkillsUSA competition, held April 24-26 in Syracuse.

A Welding and Metal Fabrication student at Capital Region BOCES, Mr. Castro competed in the welding sculpture category.

Nearly 60 students from 21 area school districts competed in events that showcase their work-related skills during the state competition. Competitions were held in over 80 trade areas, from Automotive Technology to Welding. Students spent Thursday morning demonstrating their skills and abilities in challenging competitions, spread across four large buildings on the fairgrounds. All the competitors were members of a SkillsUSA Chapter at their school, and they were accompanied to Syracuse by their advisors.
