Dear GCSD families,
At the Nov. 18 board meeting, two important topics were discussed that we want to be sure you are aware of: changes to school election locations and the results of our recent ThoughtExchange survey.
On May 29, 2025, Albany County informed the district that it no longer has the capacity to support school elections. In previous years, the county provided voting machines, training and technical assistance. Without that support, GCSD must now run its own elections.
Because this notice came after the May budget vote, the district must rely on existing funds that were not previously budgeted for election operations. After reviewing staffing, equipment and logistical capacity, consolidating to fewer voting sites was determined to be the most efficient and responsible approach.
Starting this budget season, community members will vote at three, rather than all five, elementary schools for in-person voting: Altamont, Pine Bush or Westmere. These sites were selected for their central locations to make voting as accessible as possible for residents across Guilderland. Voters who reside in the Altamont, Pine Bush and Westmere school zones will vote at their home schools. Lynnwood Elementary residents will vote at Pine Bush, and Guilderland Elementary residents will vote at Westmere.
We know that changes to voting locations may cause an inconvenience for some residents, and we appreciate your understanding as we adapt to these new responsibilities. Early voting and absentee voting will continue to be available, and we will share detailed information about all voting options as we get closer to the May election. ThoughtExchange: Community insights that matter
I am happy to share the results from our recent ThoughtExchange survey, which I presented at the Nov. 18 board meeting. This survey was an opportunity for our school community to express what truly matters to them. As this is my first year leading the district, I am eager to understand and embrace the priorities and perspectives that define Guilderland. This helps me learn, listen and lead more effectively. I am grateful for your participation and committed to keeping your voices central to our decision-making.

A heartfelt thanks to our school-related professionals
This past Tuesday, we celebrated School-Related Professionals Recognition Day, which honors the contributions of school support staff. These professionals, which include teaching assistants, aides, custodians, bus drivers, clerical workers, food service and security staff, are essential to the GCSD community. They ensure our students are safe, healthy and supported in their learning. We thank all members of our staff for their dedication and the positive impact they have on our school community.
Next week, we are off Wednesday, Nov. 26-Friday, Nov. 28 in observance of Thanksgiving. I would like to thank our students, whose energy and creativity inspire us; the parents and guardians who partner with us in learning; and the teachers and staff who work tirelessly to support every student.
I want to wish all of you a happy, safe and relaxing Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Daniel Mayberry
Superintendent of Schools
