Pine Bush elementary students win awards for excellence in the Mathematical Olympiad

A team of Pine Bush Elementary students participated in the worldwide Mathematical Olympiad program earlier this year. Twelve of the mathletes won national awards for excellence, including Thomas Zhong, who was awarded a Gold Pin for scoring in the top 2%. Silver Pins were awarded to Dhruv Kalapala, Aditshiva Yalla, Catherine Zhong, and Roger Sheng, for scoring in the top 10%.

The students participated in five monthly contests enabling them to explore mathematical concepts by developing high-order problem solving skills under the supervision of Dr. Changlong Zhong, an assistant professor of mathematics at UAlbany. Approximately 100,000 students participated as Mathematical Olympiads nationally this year.

Congratulations to all the students on their achievement!
