Sept. 18: Member of AES School Community Tests Positive for COVID-19

The district learned on Friday, Sept. 18, that a member of the Altamont Elementary School community has tested positive for COVID-19.

We are working closely with the Albany County Department of Health to identify this individual’s contacts at the school. The Albany County Department of Health will reach out to all contacts and advise on the need to quarantine and arrange testing for those exposed.

Please note that The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information and we cannot identify anyone who has tested positive.

Since the start of the school year, the district has been thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all buildings on campus, in accordance with guidance from the New York State Department of Health and the CDC. More information can be found in the cleaning and disinfecting section of the GCSD reopening plan.

At this time, all schools remain open for in-person instruction. We will continue to work closely with the Albany County Department of Health and follow their guidance on maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment.

Please contact your building principal directly if you would like more information about our health and safety procedures.
