Sept. 23 update: turf field; no school Mon., Sept. 26; multicultural calendar

A message from Superintendent Wiles:

Dear GCSD Families,

It’s hard to believe that we’re already three weeks into the new school year! I hope everyone’s year is off to a great start and that you are enjoying the newly crisp air that has come with the arrival of fall. Over the summer, Guilderland Central School District conducted a wide array of projects to improve buildings, technology and various facilities. While some of the projects are complete, a few are still ongoing. We have an important update on one of the biggest projects: the new turf field and track.

Turf field update

The construction of a new turf field and track is an exciting element of Guilderland Central School District’s 2021 capital improvement project. As of today, work on the track is still underway and there are a few remaining items that need to be completed before the field and track area can be officially used. The field still needs to be certified for use by our athletes and the track still needs to have the “rubber paving” applied. Weather permitting, these items should be done by Oct. 1.

While the district endeavored to have the turf field available for play by GCSD’s homecoming football game on Sept. 30, several weather events resulted in unavoidable delays. Our new goal is to have the field and track completed and ready to use by the last home football game on Oct. 21. Let’s hope for some clear, sunny days ahead!

No school on Monday, Sept. 26: Rosh Hashanah

Rosh Hashanah begins this Sunday, Sept. 25. In observance of this holiday, all GCSD schools will be closed on Monday, Sept. 26. District offices are open on Monday. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Multicultural calendar and observances

GCSD is mindful of the many cultural and/or religious observances that our students and school community members celebrate. We understand and recognize that these observances can impact their daily schedules and availability. The calendar of observances available under the DEI section of the district website is a valuable resource in knowing when these holidays occur.

In addition, if you notice something missing from the calendar of observances, please email communications@guilderlandschools.net or DEI Director Matt Pinchinat so we can better support all members of the GCSD community.

Sincerely,

Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
Superintendent
