Tawasentha 6E

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the Tawasentha 6E Team and Farnsworth Middle School! We are excited to begin this journey with your child and look forward to meeting them at Sixth Grade Orientation Wednesday, Sept. 3.

We understand that the transition to middle school brings new academic and social challenges. On our team, we prioritize not only academic success but also the social-emotional well-being of our students. Our goal is to foster strong relationships with each student while creating a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment. We also look forward to working closely with you and your family throughout the year. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns as they arise.

This year, our Tawasentha 6E team includes the following teachers:

Christine Huestis (Special Education): huestisc@guilderlandschools.net
Marissa Matteo (Math & Science): matteom@guilderlandschools.net
Meg Polino (ELA & Social Studies): polinom@guilderlandschools.net

Summer Reading Assignment

We ask all incoming sixth grade students to read at least one book over the summer. During the first full week of school (beginning Sept. 8), students will complete a graded follow-up assignment based on their summer reading. To help with preparation, we recommend jotting down some notes while reading.

Parent Letter Request

To help us get to know your child better, we would love for you to fill out this form. This information helps us build connections early and meet the unique needs of each student. We kindly ask that responses be submitted by Wednesday, Aug. 31 so we can review them before Orientation.

Stay Connected

We are excited for a wonderful school year ahead and can’t wait to welcome your child to our team. We also look forward to meeting you at our Sixth Grade Parent Open House on Wednesday, Sept. 24. More details will follow soon.

Warm regards,

Christine Huestis, Marissa Matteo & Meg Polino

Tawasentha 6F

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Tawasentha 6F Team and Farnsworth Middle School! We look forward to working with your child and meeting them during the Tawasentha Orientation Day on Thursday, Sept. 4

We understand the transition to middle school comes with a set of unique challenges, both academically and socially. Our team’s values focus on the importance of life lessons and the social emotional health of our students. We feel strongly about the power of positive collaboration and teamwork. As teachers we strive to model that for our students. We are committed to creating a classroom environment that is positive, safe and engaging for all.

During the summer, we are expecting our incoming 6th graders to read, read, read! We are requiring that students read at least one book and be prepared to discuss the book with teachers and peers during the first week of school, the week of September 6th.. Please refer to the recommended reading list, HERE, for suggestions on amazing books. We look forward to working with you and your family throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact.

Please take a moment to fill out our parent contact and information sheet HERE by using the Google form. We ask that you have this done by Sept. 4. This will help us get to know you and your child better. In a separate document, we have created a supply list for your Core classes. Please label all binders and folders in BLACK Sharpie with your student’s name and homeroom number.

The district is using a new online parent/teacher communication program called ParentSquare. More information for how to use ParentSquare will follow during the first week of school. We are looking forward to a wonderful school year with your child. We look forward to meeting you on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at the 6th Grade Parent Open House.

Sincerely,

Korey Rogotzke & Ashley Boyce

Tawasentha 7C

Dear Tawasentha 7 Families,

Welcome to Tawasentha 7C! We are looking forward to meeting all of you and having a wonderful year! So that your student is prepared for the first day of school, we have compiled a list of materials your student will need. If you need assistance, please reach out to the House Office or to one of the team teachers listed below.

Please make sure that all of your student’s supplies, such as folders, highlighters, etc., are clearly labeled with their name. If your student has any of the supplies listed leftover from previous years, those are fine to use. Students will need two combination locks. Please have students practice opening and have the combination memorized before the start of school.

All returning 7th-grade students were provided a Chromebook at the start of the previous school year. These students are expected to bring back the Chromebook which was brought home over the summer. Please make sure it is charged!

We look forward to meeting all of you in September!

Sincerely,

Allison Teal – Special Ed teala@guilderlandschools.net

    Tawasentha 8C

    Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:

We are so excited to welcome you to eighth grade Tawasentha this year.

Eighth grade brings a lot of challenges and added responsibilities, as we work towards your (exciting!) transition to the high school. We, your team teachers, are open-minded and flexible above all; we know you will have a lot going on, and we will be here to guide you. Our job is to work together to keep in mind and account for all of these varying circumstances while still providing you with the most consistent, inclusive, supportive – and, yes, challenging – academic environment possible. We want you to feel comfortable, and at the same time, we want you to know that we have lofty standards for you. You’ll meet them. We know it.

As a team, we value communication–communication amongst one another, as well as communication between home and school. First, eSchool. That will be your single greatest resource regarding class assignments, including missing work. (Please take a moment to log into eSchoolData to make sure that all of your contact information is up to date and accurate). We also utilize individual Google Classrooms, a whole-team Google Classroom, and ParentSquare.

We would also like to take a moment to highlight the updated cell phone policy at the school. At no point during the day are students allowed to use cell phones; they may not even carry the cell phones on them. Phones must be left at home or stored in students’ lockers. Please take a moment over the summer to teach your student to use a combination lock if necessary. Students are encouraged to visit the house office to use the phone (and will be allowed to do so) if they need to contact home for any reason during the school day. We have found that removing cellular devices encourages students to be more present with their peers and more engaged in class, and this new policy is in accordance with the Guilderland Central School District Board of Education.

We are eager to meet you and are looking forward to everything this school year will bring!

    Sincerely your team teachers,
Mr. Chiesa, Mr. Hanson, Mr. Lagios, Mrs. Pachucki
