On May 19, Guilderland Central School District voters approved a $133,900,025 proposed budget for the 2026-27 school year by a vote of 1,355 (yes) to 617 (no), which is a 68.71%, approval. The budget carries a 4.98% increase in spending over the current year’s budget and will result in a 3.42% tax levy increase, which is within the district’s tax levy limit.
“We are grateful for the continued support of the Guilderland community and for its continued support of our students and staff,” Superintendent Daniel Mayberry said. “Approval of this budget helps the district continue delivering valued programs and services for the year ahead. While financial challenges remain, we are committed to thoughtful planning, transparency and working together as we look to the future.”
In addition to the proposed 2026-27 school year budget, Guilderland residents voted on a vehicle proposition, reauthorization of capital reserve funding and to elect three Board of Education members.
Vehicle proposition
Residents approved the purchase of five 65-passenger school buses, three 35-passenger buses, two 29-passenger wheelchair equipped buses, a Chevy Tahoe, a tractor and a mower by a vote of 1,365 (yes) to 600 (no).
Reauthorization of capital reserve funding
Voters also approved a 10-year reserve of up to $20 million to continue saving for future building repairs, improvements or projects by a vote of 1,422 (yes) to 342 (no).
Board of Education election
Three candidates sought election for three open Board of Education seats. They are:
Nancy Cavillones 1,428 votes
Rebecca Butterfield 1,478 votes
Peter Stapleton 1,443 votes
Nancy Cavillones, Rebecca Butterfield and Peter Stapleton will fill three-year terms beginning on July 1, 2026.
The results were announced at Westmere Elementary School after polls closed at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, and included all in-person, absentee and early mail ballots cast.
Tonight’s vote results are unofficial. Vote totals will be certified on Wednesday, May 20.
