On May 20, Guilderland Central School District voters approved a $127,547,392 proposed budget for the 2025-26 school year by a vote of 1,628 (yes) to 546 (no), which is a 74.89% approval. The budget carries a 1.88% increase in spending over the current year’s budget and will result in a 2.22% tax levy increase, which is within the district’s tax levy limit.
In addition, voters approved the $57,259,705 Future Ready Capital Project proposition that will begin the multi-year process of transforming GCSD facilities into future-ready learning environments. The referendum passed by a vote of 1,491 (yes) to 608 (no), which is a 71.03% approval.
“We are so grateful to the Guilderland community for participating in today’s vote and for your continued support of our students and staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Marie Wiles. “Your approval of the 2025-26 budget and the Future Ready Capital Project is an investment in our schools and a reaffirmed commitment to our learners, for the long term.
In addition to the proposed 2025-26 school year budget and the Future Ready Capital Project, Guilderland residents voted on a vehicle proposition and to elect four board of education members.
Vehicle Proposition
Residents approved the purchase of five zero-emission full-size electric school buses with air conditioning, including Level-2 chargers and setup, and a vehicle to replace a 2007 Chevy Utility Dump Truck by a vote of 1,575 (yes) to 590 (no), which is a 72.75% approval.
Board of Education Election
Four candidates sought election for four open board of education seats. They are:
Katie DiPierro 1,497 votes;
Kelly Person 1,494 votes;
Meredith Brière 1,331 votes;
Peter Stapleton 1,312 votes;
Peter Stapleton will serve a term that will begin on May 21, 2025, and end on June 30, 2026, to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of board member Judy Slack.
Katie DiPierro, Kelly Person and Meredith Brière will fill three-year terms beginning on July 1, 2025.
The results were announced at Guilderland Elementary School after polls closed at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, and included all in-person, absentee and early mail ballots cast.
Tonight’s vote results are unofficial. Vote totals will be certified on Wednesday, May 21.
