A message from superintendent Wiles in support for our Asian community

Please see an important message from superintendent Dr. Wiles:

Dear Guilderland Families:

I am deeply saddened by the recent news of the horrific murder of eight people, including six of Asian descent, in Atlanta, Georgia. The increase in anti-Asian hate crimes in our country is tremendously disturbing. In Guilderland, we stand with and support our Asian community.

Please know that our faculty and staff are focused on ensuring ALL of our students and staff feel safe, valued and welcome in our school community. We must all promote understanding, acceptance, compassion, kindness and empathy for each other.

If your family needs resources or additional support, please know that your building principal, school counselors, school psychologists, and social workers are here. Below is a link to resources you might find helpful to learn and talk about race, diversity and inequities in our world.

Resources to learn and talk about race, diversity and inequities in our world.

You may recall the board of education recently established the Equity and Diversity Committee to provide guidance, oversight and direction to further our ongoing work to become more diverse, equitable, inclusive and anti-racist in our policies, practices and programs. Expect to learn more about the committee’s accomplishments and ongoing work in the coming weeks.

Sincerely,

Dr. Marie Wiles
Superintendent of Schools
