Albany County K-12 Schools: Symptomatic Household Member Protocol

In conjunction with COVID-19 positivity rates experienced locally, effective immediately, the Albany County Department of Health advises K-12 school districts to exclude siblings of symptomatic students from attending in-person classes pending COVID-19 test results of the symptomatic student. This does not mean that the whole household who may be asymptomatic needs a COVID test to return.

If you are contacted to pick up your symptomatic child from school, you will also be advised to pick up all other household members attending in-person instruction that day.

This also means if you are keeping a symptomatic student home or a household member is symptomatic, all individuals in the household (district staff members) must remain home until the symptomatic family member receives their negative test results (lab-based/PCR test) or an alternative diagnosis. Please note our daily attestation will be updated accordingly, and you should answer yes if anyone in your household is symptomatic.

Please note that as of Dec.16, the New York State Department of Health adopted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and decreased the quarantine period from 14 days to 10 days.

We are committed to our students, staff, and faculty’s health and safety, and we will continue to collaborate and follow guidance from our health partners to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Please reach out to your school nurse or building principal if you have any questions.
