Apr. 29 update: recycling event; Still Stronger than Sarcoma walk

Dear GCSD Families,

In recent months, the Guilderland Central School District has distributed rapid, at-home COVID-19 test kits to GCSD families. The shelf-life expiration dates of some of the test kits may be approaching soon, however we have been notified by the test kit manufacturer that these dates have been extended for six months. Families are encouraged to check the lot numbers of any remaining test kits for expiration date extensions. Those in need of additional at-home COVID-19 test kits should contact their school building’s nurse.

Events happening this weekend

Tomorrow, Apr. 30, the GCSD Recycling Event will be held at Farnsworth Middle School, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity if you happen to be doing some spring cleaning.

Sunday, May 1, the Still Stronger than Sarcoma Walk will be held at Tawasentha Park, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. This event is in support of Gabe Zullo and Jenna Meier, two Guilderland High School students battling Ewing sarcoma, a rare disease. The attached flyer has more details and you can register for the walk here. All proceeds will go to Ewing sarcoma research.

On Monday, Apr. 25, the Albany County Health Department issued a public health advisory recommending residents wear masks indoors because of an increase in COVID-19 transmission locally. The district is not requiring masks but did want to pass this message on to GCSD families, particularly those who may be immunocompromised.

Thank you for your continued patience and support. Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
Superintendent
