At a special meeting on Wednesday, May 14, the Guilderland Central School District Board of Education will make the anticipated appointment of Daniel J. Mayberry as the next Superintendent of Schools. The board is offering him a three-year agreement that will begin on August 1, 2025. Mr. Mayberry is currently the Superintendent of Keene Central School.
Board President Blanca Gonzalez-Parker expressed her gratitude to Lauren J. Gemmill, District Superintendent and Chief Executive Officer of Capital Region BOCES, who helped conduct the search and guide the board through the hiring process.
“On behalf of the Guilderland Board of Education, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Mr. Mayberry. We completed a very thorough search, with the assistance of Capital Region BOCES, incorporating feedback from all stakeholder groups at every step of the process,” said Ms. Gonzalez-Parker. “Mr. Mayberry’s commitment to supporting all Guilderland students and ensuring their growth and well-being gives us great confidence in his ability to lead effectively as our next Superintendent of Schools. The Board looks forward to beginning our work with Mr. Mayberry in August.”
Mr. Mayberry has served as the Superintendent of Schools and School Business Official for Keene Central Schools since 2014. Prior to that, he held the positions of 7-12 Principal, K-12 Principal, Chairperson for Special Education and Dean of Students. Mr. Mayberry began his teaching career in 1998 as a seventh grade science teacher.
“I am honored and excited to be joining the Guilderland Central School District,” said Mr. Mayberry. “I look forward to collaboratively working with faculty, staff, families and the community to support each and every student in a successful journey to graduation and beyond.”
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology/Secondary Education from The State University of New York at Potsdam in 1995 and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from the State University of New York in Plattsburgh in 1999. He also holds a Certificate of Advanced Study program in Educational Leadership from SUNY Plattsburgh.
Mr. Mayberry will replace Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marie Wiles, who announced her retirement in October. Dr. Wiles will continue to serve the district through the remainder of the 2024-25 school year. Mr. Mayberry will begin his position with GCSD on Aug. 1. It is anticipated that the Board will appoint an acting superintendent for the interim period of July 1-31.
Currently, Mr. Mayberry and his wife, Ashleah, reside in Lake Placid; they have two sons, Brooklyn and Jacob.
