June 12 Update: Celebrating a year of success as we look ahead

Dear GCSD community,

As summer break approaches, our calendars fill with end-of-year celebrations from field day and picnics to moving up ceremonies and graduation. These moments are an opportunity to celebrate our students’ accomplishments and recognize the dedication behind their success. They also offer a chance to reflect on the incredible support provided by our teachers and staff, whose commitment makes these achievements possible.

To stay current on all GCSD happenings, check out the district’s online calendar.

Flag Day celebrations across the district

Schools across the district marked Flag Day with celebrations highlighting civic pride and bringing students and staff together. This year’s commemoration carries added significance as the nation approaches its 250th anniversary.

Check out photos from the celebration at Altamont Elementary School on Facebook and Instagram.

Unified Art & Music comes to GHS

Following the success of our unified sports program, GHS is introducing new courses in unified art and music for the 2026-27 school year. In these courses, general education students will be paired with students with intellectual disabilities to learn and collaborate together.

Unified art will be offered in the first semester during block 2AC, while unified music will run during the second semester during the same block. Students will earn 0.5 elective credit.

Students interested in enrolling should reach out to their guidance counselors.

Heat safety procedures

District staff, including physical education teachers and coaches, have been advised to monitor the “feels like” temperature when planning PE classes, recess periods and athletic programs outdoors. At GCSD, we follow the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) heat index procedures, which provide clear guidance on appropriate actions when “feels like” temperatures rise above 79 degrees.

Stay tuned for any heat-related schedule changes that may be necessary throughout the remainder of the school year.

No school Friday, June 19

As a reminder, there will be no school and no Regents exams on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

The page is updated regularly, so be sure to check back often.

Thank you for staying engaged and connected throughout the school year. Together, we have celebrated achievements, navigated challenges and created meaningful opportunities for our students to learn and grow. As we look ahead to upcoming graduation ceremonies and the start of summer, we are proud of all our students have accomplished and excited for what lies ahead.
