June 25: Close of the 2020-21 school year

As the school year comes to a close, I’m so happy to report, for the second week in a row, we had no new COVID cases!

Federal COVID Relief Aid ThoughtExchange

Like school districts across the nation, the Guilderland Central School District will be receiving a substantial amount of Federal COVID Relief Aid to support the district’s recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The district will receive $4.9M to be spent by September 2023 and another $2.8M to be spent by September 2024. There is broad flexibility in the ways schools may use these resources, but the resources are meant to support non-recurring costs. To learn more about how the district is considering using these funds, click here.

GCSD has launched a ThoughtExchange to provide our community with an opportunity to share its priorities as we plan how to best use this one-time only Federal funding. You can find the ThoughtExchange here. This exchange will be open until June 29, 2021. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts and then rate the thoughts of others. Your input and perspective are valued and appreciated!

GCSD Facilities Committee meeting to determine scope of capital improvement project

Discussions are underway by the GCSD Facilities Committee for a potential facilities upgrade focused on improving learning opportunities, enhancing safety and security for students and staff, and replacing or updating aging infrastructure. The committee, comprised of parents, teachers, students, administrators and key stakeholders, has met twice to review and develop the scope of the work that will be included in a capital improvement project proposal for board consideration. You can learn more about the capital project here.

Enjoy your summer!

This will be my last weekly update for the school year but I will be sending periodic updates over the summer as we prepare for the 2021-22 school year. Thank you for your continued patience and support. Have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,

Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
Superintendent
