May 20 update: thank you to voters; no school May 27; school start times

A message from Dr. Wiles:

Dear GCSD Families,

Thank you to everyone who voted on Tuesday, May 17, in the 2022-23 school budget and board of education election. The high turnout and approval of the budget demonstrates that the Guilderland Central School District community is engaged in and supportive of our students’ education.

No school, Friday, May 27

Please note there is no school on Friday, May 27. This is a contingent holiday because the district did not use more than two emergency closure days during the 2021-22 school year. The district offices will be closed as well. This extra day off gives all GCSD students, staff and teachers an extended Memorial Day holiday weekend!

School Start Times Task Force

At the May 3 board of education meeting, the work of the School Start Times Task Force was presented to the board. Charged with revisiting the question of when is the best time to start all school levels, the task force considered adolescent sleep habits, parent/teacher/student input, local traffic patterns, lack of school bus drivers and the district’s geography in their work, resulting in three new possible options. The board of education is considering all options and is expected to select one for the 2022-23 school year at their May 24 meeting.
