Sept. 26 Update: Health reminders and school and community events

A message from Superintendent Mayberry

Dear GCSD families,

September has brought a welcome rhythm back to our schools, and these first full weeks have been filled with energy and connection. From tonight’s homecoming game and dance to next week’s school pictures, Board of Education meeting, and open houses, there is much to keep an eye out for. As a reminder, there will be no school on Thursday, Oct. 2, in observance of Yom Kippur. To stay current on all GCSD happenings, I encourage you to check the district’s online calendar regularly.

Health reminders
The Health Office has shared important updates on physical exam and health screening requirements, medications, and illness prevention. Please take a moment to review this information to ensure your child is prepared for the school year.

Earlier this week, we also shared information about a confirmed case of typhoid fever at Guilderland Elementary School. At this time, no additional cases have been identified, and the risk to our school community remains low. Typhoid and other illnesses can be prevented by practicing good hygiene, especially through thorough handwashing. As we head into cold and flu season, this is a good opportunity to reinforce healthy habits at home.

Community announcements
If you are looking for fun and educational things to do, I encourage you to visit the Community Announcements page on our district website. This resource highlights learning and recreational opportunities offered by local organizations for GCSD students and families. The page is updated regularly, so be sure to check back often.

These first few weeks have been off to a strong start, and I’m looking forward to all the learning and connections ahead this school year.

Sincerely,
Superintendent Mayberry
