Farley Follies have been canceled
After five years of fun and festivities, the Farley Follies event has come to an end. There will NOT be a Farley Follies show this year, as listed on the district calendar. Westmere will continue to fund the Daryl Farley Scholarship for a senior going into the field of education. Thank you for your understanding.
Westmere teacher Tracy Martone named Technology in Education award winner
Congratulations to Tracy Martone, a third grade teacher at Westmere Elementary School, for recently being named a district Technology in Education award winner. Martone has been teaching in the district since 2000, and has always been interested in finding ways to include technology into her teaching. "I find inspiration from colleagues in Guilderland and the many teachers around the country who I follow and exchange ideas with on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook," she said. Learn more

Throughout the fall and winter, reading students at Westmere Elementary School once again had two very special guests to help them with their studies. Melia Steed, a recent graduate of South Colonie, visited weekly along with her dog, Carly, to provide a relaxed and "dog friendly" atmosphere in which children could practice their reading skills. Fourth grader McKenzie Murphy wins grand prize in Albany County WORDS campaign
Congratulations to Westmere Elementary School fourth grader McKenzie Murphy, who was selected as the December grand prize winner of District Attorney David Soares' "Words Can Hurt or Words Can Heal" campaign. Soares visited the school on Wednesday, Jan. 14, to surprise McKenzie with her prize at the What's Up at Westmere assembly. "WORDS" is an anti-bullying program which encourages youths to do random acts of kindness in their communities throughout the county. Learn more McKenzie submitted an entry into the contest describing how, as a bystander, she helped stop bullying on her school bus using kind words.

Student information updates
Earlier this fall, a letter was distributed to all parents via the district's SchoolTool Parent & Student Portal highlighting some important details regarding student information updates in the new school year. In particular, the letter addresses changes to how report cards and Individual Student Reports (ISRs) for grade 3-8 assessments will be available to parents as well as information about verifying and updating your child's health information. District transitioning to paperless report cards in 2014-15
Beginning in the 2014-15 school year, Guilderland Central School District will be transitioning to a paperless report card system for all students, grades K-12. Report cards will no longer be sent or mailed home; instead, parents will be able to access and review their child’s report card online via the district’s SchoolTool Parent and Student Portal. Important immunization changes for students entering grades K-6
The NYS Department of Health and NYS Education Department recently issued immunization requirement changes starting with the 2014-2015 school year. A letter will be sent home to all parents of students in grades K-6 on April 22 explaining these changes. Parents can also read the letter here (PDF).
Note to parents regarding access during afternoon dismissal time
Please note that the back doors for parent pickup at the 2 p.m. dismissal time will be opened from 1:50 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. only. Y-time will have someone stationed to watch for people that will be picking up children from their program after 2:15 p.m.
