Mar. 17 update: board meeting and budget Q & A rescheduled; DEI events; important dates for K-2

A message from Dr. Wiles:

Dear GCSD Families,

Due to the snowstorm earlier this week, it was necessary to postpone the Guilderland Central School District board of education meeting and budget question and answer session. Originally scheduled for Mar. 14, the board meeting and Q&A have been rescheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 21 at 7:00 p.m.

Members of the Guilderland school community are invited to attend this workshop session; questions from the in-person audience are welcome. For more information about the budget Q&A, visit the district website.

For detailed information on the 2023-24 proposed budget, please read about the draft budget presentation Assistant Superintendent for Business Dr. Van Alstyne and I gave at the Mar. 7 board of education meeting. This budget proposal addresses the priorities of key stakeholders, meets the district’s needs and aligns with the goal of educating the whole student, to ensure that each and every student is ready to succeed in the future.

Upcoming DEI events

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Engagement Committee will hold the next in a series of “fireside chats” at the Guilderland Public Library on Tuesday, Mar. 21, 12-1:00 p.m. These forums provide the community with the opportunity to speak to members of the committee, ask questions and discuss personal experiences in an informal setting. All are welcome to attend. You can access the full schedule of fireside chats here.

The next meeting of the DEI Committee will be held on Wednesday, Mar. 22 at 7:00 p.m. DEI Committee meetings are recorded and can be viewed on the GHS Media YouTube channel.

Important dates for grades K-2

Students in all elementary schools in grades K-2 will have no school on March 23; also grades K-2 will dismiss at 11:05 a.m on March 29. Please note these changes to the regular schedule.

One final reminder, registration for universal pre-kindergarten ends on April 6. The district website details how to apply for the lottery, required documentation and other specifics.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
Superintendent
