The Guilderland Central School District has been named one of the nation’s Best Communities for Music Education for the 16th time, earning recognition from the NAMM Foundation for its commitment to music as part of a well‑rounded education.
The national designation honors school districts that demonstrate strong support for music education through funding, participation, instructional time, facilities and community involvement.
“This recognition reflects the daily work happening in our classrooms and rehearsal spaces,” said Robert Winans, instructional administrator for fine and performing arts. “Seeing students grow in confidence, creativity and collaboration through music is incredibly rewarding, and this honor reinforces how much our community values and supports that journey.”
Music instruction in the district begins in kindergarten and continues through high school, with programs in band, orchestra, chorus and advanced performance ensembles. More than 2,000 students participate in music each year, performing in schools and throughout the community. Students also compete at the regional and state levels through organizations such as NYSSMA and NYSBDA.
Winans pointed to future facility enhancements at GHS approved by voters as part of the 2025 capital project, which include new choral, band, and orchestra rooms. “These dedicated spaces will enhance instruction, support collaboration and provide students with environments that match the excellence of their work,” he said. “They will help ensure our facilities meet the needs of our growing music programs for years to come.”
The district’s continued recognition reflects a longstanding commitment to the arts, supported by educators, families and the broader community.
