Feb. 2, 2024

Dear GCSD Families,

On Thursday, Feb. 1, the Guilderland Central School District was made aware of a Farnsworth Middle School student who had a list of school community members they intended to harm on a personal electronic device. Administration immediately began investigating, removed the student from school and contacted law enforcement, in accordance with the district’s safety protocols and Code of Conduct. The Guilderland Police Department’s investigation is ongoing.

The student’s list had been shared on social media. The initial post was removed but has been recirculated and may continue to raise questions among our community.

The safety of all of our students and staff is our highest priority and the district takes these types of threats seriously. We encourage families to talk to students about what they read and share online; if you see something, say something. As always, we are thankful for the vigilance of our community in reporting their concerns to us.

If you have any questions or further concerns, contact the district office at 518-456-6200.

Sincerely,

Marie Wiles, Ph.D.
Superintendent
