GCSD Board of Education Candidates Night, May 6, 7 p.m.

On Monday, May 6, at 7 p.m., the Guilderland PTA Council is hosting a virtual Meet the Candidates Night to introduce potential Guilderland Central School District Board of Education members to the community. The forum will be livestreamed on the GHS Media channel on YouTube and will be recorded.

District residents will vote on May 21 to fill three seats on the board of education as part of the annual school budget vote. The seats are currently held by Blanca Gonzalez-Parker and Nathan Sabourin; one seat is vacant. Candidates run at-large and are elected to unpaid terms.

One candidate will serve a term that will begin on May 22, 2024 and end on June 30, 2027, to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Board President Dr. Seema Rivera. This seat will be filled by the eligible candidate who receives the highest number of votes and is not an incumbent GCSD board of education member.

The remaining seats will be filled by the two candidates, regardless of whether or not they are incumbents, who receive the next two highest vote totals; their terms carry a three-year term beginning on July 1, 2024.

Candidate bios are available on the district website. The candidates will appear on the ballot in the following order:

  • Tara Molloy-Grocki
  • Mateo Dunagan
  • Elizabeth Floyd Mair
  • Blanca Gonzalez-Parker
  • Nina Kaplan

Meet the Candidates Night will be moderated by two Guilderland High School students. Each candidate will be allowed a three-minute introduction to begin. This will be followed by a series of five questions asked of each candidate by the moderators; candidates will have two minutes to respond.

The Board of Education election will take place on Tuesday, May 21 as part of the annual school budget vote. Information about the proposed 2024-25 district budget and how you can vote can be found on the district website.
