Nov. 21 update: communicating school closures and delays; DEI fireside chat; free book fair; School Related Professionals Day; Thanksgiving recess

A message from Dr. Wiles:

Dear GCSD Families,

There’s a definite chill in the air, which makes now a good time to remind families of the district’s inclement weather procedures. Guilderland Central School District schools will be closed when snow or poor road conditions make travel difficult or impossible. Additional information about closings and delays can be found on the district website.

School closings and delayed openings that happen prior to regular school hours will be announced on local news channels and posted on the homepage of the district website. Families will also receive a text message, email and a ParentSquare app notification at 6:00 a.m. Families will only receive a phone call if these forms of communication fail. Should an early dismissal during school hours be necessary, families will receive a text message, email, ParentSquare app notification and a phone call. Our aim is to provide timely, effective communication with minimal interruption.

DEI fireside chat, Tuesday, Nov. 28, 6:00 p.m.

The DEI Engagement Committee is once again holding fireside chats at the Guilderland Public Library, with the next one scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the library’s Helderberg Meeting Room. The purpose of these forums is to provide Guilderland community members with the opportunity to participate in discussions centered around DEI in an informal, relaxed setting. Learn more about the DEI fireside chat on the district website.

School Related Professionals Recognition Day

Today is School Related Professionals Day, a day to recognize the dedicated, knowledgeable and hardworking group who keep our schools running smoothly each and every day. Please join us in extending sincere and heartfelt appreciation to our teaching assistants, aides and monitors clerical staff, bus drivers and attendants, cafeteria workers, custodial and maintenance staff, nurses and school resource officers who all play a vital part in providing for the education and well-being of the students of GCSD!

All seven GCSD school buildings will be closed for Thanksgiving recess, Nov. 22-24; the district offices will be closed Nov. 23-24. Have a wonderful weekend and a very safe, healthy and Happy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,
